SLJ Marina Silva Day 3

Today we did a teaser from the summer learning journey. We got to choose out of three tasks. I chose to do one about Marina Silva. She is an activist who is trying to stop illegal logging and in some cases, she is winning. For this task we had to interview three friends about what they're most proud of.

Sapphire: Coming first for the first time in a gymnastics competition.

Ayah: All the maths work she has done through out school. ( Well done Ayah! )

Breanna: Her water ski ability. She is happy that she can go to the lake almost every weekend to ski.

SLJ Shelly-Anne Fraser-Pryce Day 2

Today we did a teaser from the summer learning journey. We got to choose out of three tasks. I chose to do one about Shelly-Anne Fraser-Pryce. She is a amazing runner. For this task we had to write four similes about whatever we want.

  1. She is as fast as a cheetah.
  2. He is as tall as an adult giraffe.
  3. Her voice is as small as an ant.
  4. The balloon was as big as the Pacific Ocean.

The Dream Giver

We have been writing about The Dream Giver. We  had to use a lot of our imagination.  Task: watch the video ‘Dreamgiver.’  You then have to write a short story or piece of descriptive writing using this video as your inspiration.

Success Criteria;

-use descriptive, interesting language
-start your story with a ‘hook’
-use your senses (see, hear, smell, feel, taste)
-make sure that your sentences make sense
-use a range of punctuation

The Dream Giver
Most of you have heard of the tooth fairy or the BFG, but has anyone heard of the Dream Giver? Well, I’m about to tell you a story about the thing that makes you have any and every of your dreams. Well, one night I woke up at about 12:00 to hear a little buzzy sound. It’s just the wind, I thought. But it is a very still night and when I looked outside my window I saw not even one tree move. Suddenly the sound stopped. I climbed back into bed and lay awake for a couple minutes waiting for it to start again.

I finally drifted back to sleep and a couple hours later I woke up yet again. This time I had woken up to...
wait what was that ? Something with an orange light of some sort just flew past my window. I quickly lie down, slit my eyes so I can just see the outlines of things and pretend to sleep as my door creaks open. I’m about to say, “ Mum, what are you doing?” but I stop myself just in time as I realize that whoever or whatever is coming into my room is not my mum.

This creature looks sort of like a goblin mixed with a fairy, so sort of like a Foblin or Gairy. It is wearing what looks like a simple, plain, grey rag and a black backpack.  He pulled something out of his backpack and it looked like a spray bottle like what you use for cleaning. He sprayed it around the room and it was obviously something that made me fall fast asl…

I wake up in a beautiful meadow with butterflies, bunnies, bumble bees and it’s a sunny day. Wait, what? I’m thinking, A sunny day?How is it day? I’m supposed to be lying in my bed but instead I’m in a field with butterflies, bunnies, bumble bees and it’s a sunny day. Well back to the story.

I start walking around when suddenly I turn into an astronaut which is what I’ve been wanting to be since I was about two or three. It’s so, so amazing and wonderful in space. I’m just floating looking  at the milky way wondering if when you tasted it, it actually tastes like milk when...

“Oh, no!” I scream. I’m about to head right into a big black hole that looks like it has no end. I’m about to close my eyes and brace myself when I see the creature that was in my room fly around the black hole wrapping what looks like a special sequined rainbow coloured rope around it. The black hole suddenly closed up and I was safe.

All of a sudden a huge flash of turquoise light surrounds me. When it goes I find myself back in my bed flustered and scared. And then that’s when I realized it was all a dream. I look around the room just in time to see the strange creature fly out of my room. And this story explains why I called the strange creature…
The Dream Giver.
